Liberia: AMCOW Holds Consultative Meeting on Sanitation

The African Minister’s Council on Water (AMCOW) has concluded a one-day Country Stakeholder Consultation on the African Sanitation Policy Guidelines (ASPG) in Monrovia. The Consultation was held in partnership with the National WASH Commission and Stakeholders of the WASH Sector of Liberia. The Consultation was aimed at strengthening the enabling environment, including increased investment, enhancing the capacity of national authorities and updating legal and policy frameworks for regulating sanitation systems.

LIBERIA: WASH Legislative Caucus Holds Interactive Dialogue on Nutrition

An interactive dialogue aimed at finding solution to address nutrition and stunting in Liberia has taken place at the Capitol Building in Monrovia. The dialogue was held under the auspices of the WASH Legislative Caucus at the National Legislature. Speaking at the start of the dialogue, the Chairman of the WASH Legislative Caucus, Grand Bassa County Senator, Jonathan Kaipay emphasized the need for coordination to help find an amicable solution to the issues of nutrition and stunting in Liberia.

Position Statement of Liberia CSOs WASH Network

The Liberia civil Society Organizations on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, (WASH) Network attention has been drawn to a shameful and disdainful situation that is brewing within the Wash sector of Liberia. The Liberia CSOs WASH Network has worked over the years to bring to an end fragmentation within the WASH Sector by advocating for the establishment of the National WASH Commission which has the mandate to promote and regulate the development, management of water, sanitation and hygiene services and serves as the principal government’s entity on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) throughout the republic of Liberia.

Liberians celebrate extension of legal status, pathway to American citizenship

Liberian Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) holders are heaving a sigh of relief. Following the enactment of the Liberian Refugee Immigration Fairness Act (LRIFA) the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced Thursday it will begin to accept Green Card Applications to adjust status to permanent resident from certain Liberian nationals under Section 7611 of the National Defense Appropriation Act (NDAA) for fiscal year 2020, according to a USCIS press release.

LIBERIA: WASH CSOs Network Ends General Assembly in Gbarnga

The Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Civil Society Organizations Network of Liberia has ended a 3-Day General Assembly in Gbarnga City, Bong County, with the election of a new leadership. The exercise held from December 12-14, 2019 was held under the theme; “We are Better Together”. Those elected were Augustine N. Myers of the WASH R&E “Media” Network as National Chairman, Lusu B. Gibson of Shalom as Co-Chair, and George Karyah of LIFE-NGO as Secretary General. The outgoing Chairperson of the National Civil Society Council of Liberia, Frances Greaves, later officially inducted the new WASH CSOs Network officers.
