Nigeria gets warning over possible outbreak of cassava diseases

West African Virus Epidemiology (WAVE), has warned Nigeria over possible outbreaks of two cassava diseases. Executive Director of WAVE, Justin Pita who gave the warning at the second Annual General Meeting of stakeholders from the West African sub-region in Abuja, listed the two new diseases as begomovirus and brown streak viruses.

The House of Representatives has mandated its Committees on Agricultural Production and Services and Customs and Excise to investigate the Federal Ministry of Agriculture regarding exportation of yam tubers. The House alleged that the ministry disregarded the law prohibiting exportation of yam tubers. Others expected to be probed alongside the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development were Comptroller-General of Customs and the Executive Director, Nigerian Export Promotion Council, Director-General, the Standards Organisation of Nigeria, Head, Nigerian Quarantine Service and heads of all other relevant agencies.

Zimbabwe Stock Exchange listed brick maker Willdale Limited plans to contest in Zambia booming construction industry and as a commodity and service provider. The company which rolled its sleeves in readiness for the marketing which has for long imported bulk of building construction from China and South Africa, late last year invested over $2 million in setting up a transport logistics unit, by acquiring a fleet of 12 specialised trucks.
