Referring to threats of terrorism and instability in the Horn of Africa country, Kenya yesterday said the international community holds the key to peace in Mogadishu. Speaking in Nairobi, Foreign Minister Moses Wetangula said Somalia’s UN-backed Transitional Federal Government (TFG) was faced with critical security challenges and required urgent external support. ARUSHA Over 100 participants drawn from the East African Community Partner States’ key ministries and Government institutions, regional and international organizations and civil society will this week attend the EAC Conference on Good Governance in Nairobi, Kenya. By Mark Oloo (Nairobi) – Barack Obama’s family has reached an agreement with the Kenyan government to construct a tourism centre in honour of the birthplace of the US president’s father. The planned tourism and cultural facility will cost Sh100,000 million ($8 million), Kenya’s National Heritage Minister William Ntimama said, after holding talks with the family. Mr Ntimama added a plot was identified and construction of the centre would continue in Nyangoma Kogelo, Western Kenya. The foundation stone has been laid. By Mark Oloo (Nairobi) – Kenya could soon be one of the pioneer countries in sub Saharan Africa to enact legislation limiting green house gas emissions. Yesterday, parliament passed a motion seeking to compel the Government to ratify tight regulations on air pollution in the East African country. The motion, sponsored by Chachu Ganya, an MP, seeks to among other things raise levies on fuel to discourage use of private cars.
