Papers sought on faith-based poverty reduction

Worldwide – An essay competition is seeking first-person narratives on poverty reduction from writers around the globe. Deadline: October 15. Writers should focus on enterprise solutions to poverty that are faith-based, faith-inspired or interfaith. Topics can be focued in subjects including healthcare, education, consumer products and human rights. Two prizes of US$5,000 each will be awarded. Winners will be announced December 15. The essay competition is being hosted by S.E.VEN Fund (SEVEN) in partnership with the Washington DC-based Center For Interfaith Action on Global Poverty (CIFA). Marketing Workshop For Filmmakers Worldwide

Filmmakers worldwide can apply to participate in a training workshop on film marketing in Luxembourg from December 1 to 5. Deadline to apply: October 15. The EAVE Film Marketing Workshop is a four-day intensive program exploring film marketing throughout the process of development, production, festival screening, exhibition and distribution. It will emphasize a “hands-on” and practical approach using current films and marketing techniques. The event’s working language is English. Human Rights Documentary Festival Accepting Entries

Documentary filmmakers interested in human rights and social change around the world are encouraged to submit entries to an international documentary film festival in Budapest. Deadline for submission: August 31. The 7th Verzio International Film Festival will run from November 2 to 7. The festival is seeking high quality, creative documentaries dedicated to the ideals of open society, democracy, rule-of-law, tolerance, and political and cultural pluralism in a global context, according to organizers. Letter Shows US Warned The Scottish Over Tripoli Jubilation

A newly-released letter shows that worried U.S. officials warned Scottish authorities that scenes of jubilation in Tripoli over the release of the Lockerbie bomber would be damaging, and asked that Abdel Baset al-Megrahi not be allowed to leave Scotland. A 2009 diplomatic letter from Richard LeBaron, the charge d’affaires at the U.S. Embassy in London, to Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond was released Monday.
