82 rescued, 68 survived and 14 lost their lives in Ghana’s Melcom disaster

By Morkporkpor Anku (Accra-Ghana) – The Rescue mission for the Melcom disaster says 82 people were rescued from the rubble – 68 survived but with various degrees of injuries and 14 people lost their lives. The Rescue mission came to an end on Monday following the collapse of the six storey Achimota branch of Melcom shopping mall. Ghana’s President cut short trip to visit site of Collapsed Melcom store

By Morkporkpor Anku (Accra, Ghana) – Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama has cut short his visit to the northern part of the country on Wednesday, and visited the site of the collapsed Melcom store in Achimota a suburb of the Accra. On Wednesday a five-storey shopping centre collapsed in Ghana killing at least one person and leaving several dozen people trapped in the rubble. The President had ordered an investigation into why the building, which opened earlier this year, collapsed. Former Governor now Vice President of Ghana
