Zimbabwe: Aspiring Zanu PF Legislator ‘Torments’ Nyabira Farmer

By Own Correspondent – Zvimba east Zanu PF aspiring candidate and late Air Marshal Josiah Tungamirai’s son is tormenting a Nyabira farmer over a  land wrangle .

Tawanda Tungamirai, who is currently the Darwendale councillor and is representing Zanu PF in the forthcoming polls was hauled before the Banket Magistrates Court by Jealous Kamweji facing a litany of accusations that include assault, malicious damage to property and death threats.

The case was not however heard for the second time this month.

Speaking to this publication, an equally distraught Kamweji said he was losing hope that justice will prevail over the matter   and claims that the late hero’s son once  told him that he was ‘untouchable’.

“I don’t know if justice will ever prevail in this matter because when the land wrangle started in 2016,Tawanda told me that the Nyabira Police will not hear my case as it ‘belongs’ to him,” bared the Nyabira farmer.

Kamweji said he has the offer letter for the piece of land in question and even the Land Commission team came to support his claim but Tungamirai is notoriously refusing to accept that.

“The Land Commission team came and said the land belonged to me but Tawanda is not acceding to  that he actually fraudulently acquired a fake offer letter which he gave to one of his relatives whom he wants installed at the farm,” said Kamweji.

The Nyabira farmer accuses Tawanda of torching his homestead, insulting and    beating him up for refusing to relocate.

“My homestead was burnt and he came and beat me up threatening to do a ‘Dzamara’ on me (Itai Dzamara was allegedly abducted by suspected state agents in 2015),”narrated Kamweji.

The farmer has since sought refuge at his neighbour Egeline Mutare’s   homestead but says the aspiring legislator is not stopping at issuing death threats and this was  vouched by his neighbour.

“I have not seen someone who is cruel like Tawanda. He has been coming to our homestead driving in the fields threatening us for harbouring Kamweji to the extent that my 5- year -old grandson confided to me the other that if he was a grown-up he could have put up a fight with Tawanda,” said the elderly woman.

The Kamweji family is living in perpetual fear so much that they all spent the time together.

Tawanda is one of the late Air Marshall Tungamirai’s sons who were once accused by other siblings of the hero for plundering their father’s estate at the expense of others.
