Zimbabwe: Aspiring Highfield East MP pledges free Wi-Fi

By Own Correspondent – Aspiring Zanu PF Highfield East MP has pledged to install free Wi-Fi at public places in his constituency.

Speaking at the side-lines of his door-to-door campaign, Mike Taka Mashonganyika (48) said he is already installing free Wi-Fi at around 10 public places that include schools in the Highfield East constituency so that the residents particularly the youths benefit from the initiative.

“I have realized that most high-density suburbs lack such an amenity compared to medium and low density suburbs hence we see our young people from the ghettos failing to access such an important facility which can enable them to research in their education.

“I am installing Wi-Fi at 10 places which include some schools in this area,” said the former Prince Edward student.

The   businessman said that he is confident of clinching the seat as the sitting opposition MDC Alliance legislator who is also in the race has failed the electorate by not making any strides towards developing the area.

“I want to assure you that I am very much confident that I will be the legislator of this area after the coming elections.

“Erick Murai has not been useful as you can see how bad our roads are now,” added Mashonganyika.

The ruling party candidate says he has done a lot of philanthropic work in the Highfield East constituency that speaks volume to his desire to spruce up the constituency.

“I have organized sports tournaments   to identify and nurture raw talent and recently I sank a borehole to avert the water crisis in this area.

“These things I have been doing them even before I got interested in running for public office,” explained the Highfield East Zanu PF candidate.

Mashonganyika said there was a glaring lack of a bold representation of high-density suburbs’ issues in parliament and said as someone who grew up in Highfields he is eager to rectify this once elected.
