Upgrading of Burkina’s general mapInitiated in February 2011, this project is carried out by the Burkina Faso mapping institute (IGB) with the technical assistance of IGN France International. It aims to update the entire country’s coverage at a scale of 1:200 000 and to complete a national database.

The entire production is carried out on site at the IGB premises and by IGB’s staff in the framework of a transfer of technology set up by IGN France International.

The delivery of the new national maps marks the recognition of the survey of Burkina (IGB) as the national reference organization in term of geographic information.

Newly fitted and supported by a performing and motivating staff, IGB has acquired new work methodologies and is now able to play its entire role to provide all key decision makers involved in the economic development of Burkina, with reliable and coherent data.

A final seminar will end up the project in September 2014. By this date, the new data base will cover the entire country and 14 maps of the Eastern part of Burkina will be produced in addition to the 13 maps already delivered at the occasion of the seminar.
