Tanzania: Minister Membe to grace 10th anniversary of APRM

By Special Correspondent, Zanzibar – Tanzania will join other African Union Member State to celebrate 10th anniversary of the Continental governance assessment instrument, the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM).

Speaking in separate media interviews here yesterday, the APRM Tanzania head of Media and Communications, Mr. Hassan Abbas said as APRM marks 10 years it was resolved during the last summit of Heads of States and Government that each member state should prepare some activities to reflect on the APRM work.

“Tanzania as among the 33 African countries participating in the APRM process has already launched its celebrations by conducting publicity events to popularize the innovative Mechanism,” he said.

He added that the commemorations will reach its peak on Saturday, 9th March, 2013 when the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Bernard Membe is expected to address APRM stakeholders in Dar es Salaam. Mr. Membe is the APRM Tanzania focal point Minister

“We have decided to take the opportunity to reflect on the APRM work in Africa and in Tanzania,” he said adding that:

“The 10 years were of great efforts to bring the innovative work of the APRM to the mark. Today we are proud that, a decade later APRM has positioned itself as a forum that brings together state and non-state actors to discuss how can African countries adopt and implement good policies.”

APRM was endorsed by African Heads of States and Government in 2002 but secured its formal operations after the first six countries joined on 9th March, 2003.

Tanzania is a member to the Continental Mechanism since 2004 and it has completed the first phase of implementing the process by submitting its Country Review Report to the Forum of African leaders for peer review in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on 26th January, 2013.
