Liberia: WASH Commission provides info on WASH Data

Says the lack of funding has delayed ODF Road Map Launch

By: WASH R&E “Media” Network – The National WASH Commission has revealed the completion of WASH Data Collection across the country, with support from partners.

In an interview with the WASH Media, the Chairman of the Commission, Bobby Whitefield said the data would provide authenticate WASH information to the public and the world concerning Liberia’s WASH status.

Previously, in a WhatsApp message, Chairman Whitefield indicated that the Commission concluded presentation on Liberia’s progress on SDG-six, reflecting on water, sanitation and hygiene in the country.

However, the Chairman later said that data specialists are still cleaning up information gathered from the field.

The Chairman of the Commission said the data process is ongoing to ensure that correct data is published contrary to his WhatsApp post.

In line with the WhatsApp post, more WASH stakeholders and specialists have raised serious concerns about the post, questioning the reliability of his post in several WASH sector’s WhatsApp chatrooms.

They disclosed that information provided by the WASH Commission Chairman is far from reality, looking at existing WASH conditions in Liberia.

In another development, the WASH Commission Chairman Bobby Whitefield has revealed that the delay for the launch of the Open Defecation Road Map by the President is due to lack of funding.

“The Government of Liberia is challenged in allocating the resources to carry out the launch of the ODF Road Map”, the National WASH Commission CEO and Chairman added.

Bobby Whitefield said the Commission does not want the ODF Road Map to be on shelve, but to actualize it by putting it into operation.

“We are anticipating the assistance of development partners to carry out the Open Defecation Free Road Map launch in Liberia,” he pointed out.

Mr. Whitefield has apologized for the delay of the launch and assured WASH sector actors about government’s preparedness to launch Document.
