The unsanitary condition at these various  market sites which is been described as health threatening by marketers, pedestrians and community residents, now calls for immediate attention by the city government, “Monrovia City Corporation (MCC)”.

The Doula Market on the Bushrod Island is one of those commercial centers experiencing appalling sanitary condition.

Marketers interviewed by the WASH Media Network revealed that the huge pile of garbage at the Doula Market is creating serious health challenge for them.

The marketers disclosed that the odor and flies from the dirt have created serious huddles for them in their daily business transaction.

The affected marketers disclosed that the worst situation is the burning of garbage at market places by some unidentified individuals.

They indicated the burning of garbage recently polluted the entire atmosphere with thick smoke and unpleasant odor.

The marketers are calling on the Monrovia City Corporation to immediately put in place measures to address the appalling garbage situation in and around Monrovia.

Meanwhile, the Monrovia City Corporation says it is determined to address the challenging waste situation facing the city of Monrovia.

Monrovia City Mayor, Jefferson Koijee told the Press that his administration will exert all efforts in addressing the solid waste challenges in Monrovia within the shortest possible time.

The City Mayor further noted that this year would witness great improvement and transformation in the sanitary condition of Monrovia.

He urged residents of Monrovia and other partners to look at the waste situation as a national challenge that requires the support of every Liberian.

The Mayor frowned on unscrupulous individuals engaged in the burning of waste across the city and warned that anyone caught will face the full weight of the law.
