Zimbabwe Achievers Awards launches literary competition

The Zimbabwe Achievers Awards (ZAA) has announced the launch of a new literary award for it’s prestigious annual competition.

The new category with a US$1000 cash prize for the winner, will also see the top entries compiled into an anthology of new writings to be published by the ZAA.

ZAA director Conrad Mwanza said: “Instead of nominating for the best writer, as in other categories, we have set up a writing competition to encourage, inspire and celebrate the best literary talent in Zimbabwe.

“We are looking to then compile the cream of the submissions into body of literary works that will be available for the public. We are aiming to make this an annual fixture on the literary calendar and hopefully become an incentive to positively encourage young and emerging writers,” he explained.

Entries of the competition are already being accepted via the website www.zimachievers.com and on e-mail tostories@zimachievers.com . Stories submitted have a cap of 5,000 words and should be presented before the 20 December 2011 deadline.

Mwanza said: “The Award is open to all Zimbabwean nationals resident in the country or elsewhere. The story entered must be unpublished, original and in English.

“We are also taking only one entry per author,” he added.
