Libya: More Gambians, other nationals evacuated from Libya

By Shout-Africa Correspondent – As the situation in violence-rocked Libya remains uncertain, more and more Gambians continue to arrive home as part of a special chartered flight sent by the Gambia government to evacuate them. The latest arrival saw the evacuation of 347 more Gambians, 51 Senegalese, 28 Bissau Guineans and one from Guinea Conakry. This follows the arrival on Thursday of 164 Gambians, who were also trapped in Libya. Somalia: Five pirates sentenced to life imprisonment in US

By Nangayi Guyson – Norfolk – At least five Somali pirates have been convicted  for attacking a US Navy ship off Africa’s coast  and have been sentenced to life in imprisonment. The men were also sentenced on Monday to serve an additional 80 years in prison on other charges after they were found guilty in November of trying to hijack the USS Nicholas, a vessel on an anti-piracy mission. Residents of West Point, a very densely populated slum community by the famous inland water and the Atlantic Ocean was put into a jubilant mood over the weekend when President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf dedicated a one and a half-mile road constructed by the Ministry of Public Works. Gambia: More US Peace Corps Volunteers sworn in

By Shout-Africa.com Gambia Correspondent – The United States Ambassador to The Gambia, Pamela Ann White, Friday presided over the swearing in of 30 American Peace Corps volunteers at a ceremony held at her residence in Fajara. The volunteers, all of whom took an oath administered by Ambassador White, will serve a two-year assignment. Gambia Ports Authority Dismisses Reports
