By: WASH R&E Network-Liberia – The people of the Township of Arthington now have reasons to rejoice following the construction and subsequent dedication of the first public hand pump and latrine facilities by a USA based Organization, “Higher Ground International” after 190 years. Arthington is a historic Township in Montserrado County, the Republic of Liberia, established by the first Settlers in 1822 and the home of former President, Charles Taylor. The construction of the facilities followed an assessment by Higher Ground International to the Township which pays host to over fifteen thousand inhabitants. WaterAid Urges Governments to bring Water and Sanitation to 100 million more Africans

By: WASH R&E Network-Liberia – The international organisation WaterAid has called on governments meeting in Cairo for Africa Water Week (13th to 19th May) to commit to bringing water and sanitation services to 100 million more Africans over the next two years. In sub-Saharan Africa, nearly 600 million people lack access to adequate sanitation, while 335 million people lack access to clean, safe water. Over three quarters of a million children in Africa die every year due to diarrhoeal diseases caused, in the vast majority of cases, by a lack of safe drinking water and adequate sanitation.
