Massive malaria surge in DR Congo requires urgent response

…..Triple-fold Increase in Cases Since 2009  – Kinshasa/London, 25 April 2012 – A massive increase in malaria cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is overwhelming existing treatment capacity, demanding a comprehensive and stepped-up response, the international medical humanitarian organisation Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) said today. MSF’s health centres and hospitals have observed a marked increase in malaria cases, including in its severe form. Two MSF Staff Members Kidnapped Then Released in DRC

London, April 4, 2012:  On the morning of Wednesday, April 4, two MSF staff members—Cedric, a nurse, and Marius, a logistician—were kidnapped near Nyanzale in North Kivu Province while traveling by car. Hours later, they were released unharmed. Given the seriousness of this incident, MSF evacuated its team working in the hospital Nyanzale and in two health centers in the area. Democratic Republic of Congo: MSF staff return to Shamwana after town emptied by fighting

Lubumbashi, 6 March 2012 — Two days after being forced to suspend its operations in Shamwana, in the east of Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the international medical organisation Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) has returned to the town to continue providing medical care. Program for the supply of Spot images for the Congo Basin as part of the REDD+ initiative

IGN France International CONTINUED ITS AWARENESS ACTION IN DURBAN Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet, Minister of Ecology, Sustainable Development, Transportation and Housing presided the ceremony in Durban for the signature of licenses corresponding to the use of high resolution satellite images by her African counterparts. The images will be used in the fight against deforestation and the degradation of forests in Central Africa. African Film Projects Found Producers at Tarifa and Berlinale Festivals

November 23rd, Tarifa, Spain – Three brand new African film projects from Burkina Faso, Uganda and Democratic Republic of Congo found their producers at this year´s 3rd África Prouce Co-Production Forum and thus are able to enter into pre-production phase.
