LIBERIA: WaterAid ends 3-day partners planning meeting

…Empowers  Local  Partners, Provides Logistical Support – By: WASH R&E “Media” Network – WaterAid Liberia-Sierra Leone has ended a three-day Transboundary   Partners Planning Meeting in Monrovia. The Meeting which brought together a total of 52 Participants from both Liberia and Sierra Leone, focused on partners’ actvities for 2017/18.

The activities will include five Programmes: WASH Governance, Integrited WASH Programme, WASH Service Delivery, Knowledge Management and Organizatinal Development.

The purpose of the Planning Meeting was to develop a Joint Implimentation Plan in line with WaterAid’s Annual Plan and Budget, which witnessed the full participation of all Partners from both countries.

Speaking at the close of the Meeting, WaterAid Liberia and Sierra Leone Country Director, Patrick Cheah said the Meeting provided the platform for WaterAid to have an insight of Partners’ activities and work with them in the implementaion.

Mr. Cheah said the Meeting reviewed past activities of 2016/2017 targets and achievements, and identified learning to feed into planned activities for the Fiscal Year 2017/2018.

He said the Meeting was successful and encouraged Partners to remain committed in the implimentation of activities as planned and on time.

Also speaking, WaterAid Deputy Country Director, Chuchu Selma described 2017 as a critical year for WaterAid’s activities.

Mr. Selma stressed that his orgnization’s first year of Transboundary Programme implementation was a success.

He revealed that as a result of the Partners huge support and collaboration, the Ebola virus in the two countries was defeated.

He expresed regret over the deaths of two of the charity Partners, Executive Directors of SHALOM and SLPP in Liberia.

Mr. Selma said these fallen heroes contributed immensely to the achivement of WaterAid Programmmes.

WaterAid Deputy Country Director Selma called on Partners to remain proactive in the implementation of the various Transboundary  Programmes.

Meanwhile, WaterAid Liberia and Sierra Leone has presented materials to enhance the capacity of its Partners.

Making presentation at the close of the Meeting over the weekend of logistical support to Partners in Liberia,  WaterAid Country Director,  Patrick Cheah said the donation was his organization’s own way of  empowering partners to ehance their work.

The beneficiaries were CODES, WASH R&E “Media”, United Youth, WASH Net-Liberia, and Liberia NGOs Network (LINNK).

The logistical support include laptops, digital recorder, video recorder, and smartphones, among others.

Mr. Cheah extolled Partners of the two countries for the level of commitment and dedication exhibited to improve the WASH sector.

According to the WaterAid Country Director, in order to achieve their objectives, it was vital for the local partners and staff of WaterAid to work collectively to ensure that  partners meet the benchmarks.
