By Own Correspondent with support from Daily Observer – Liberia’s largest GSM service provider, Lonestar Communication Company or LCC Friday unveiled its new Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Mazeen Mroue before a cross-section of local senior journalists at the Mamba Point Hotel during a tete-a-tete.
Mr. Mroue comes with a wealth of experience as a visionary leader with over 15 years of experience in the Telecommunications and Information Technology Industries at senior levels. He took over since March 21, 2011.
In a short speech at the program, Mr. Mroue hinted on some plans to improve the current services being provided by his network and maintained a transparent relation with the media. As part of his agenda to improve the services here, one of the innovative ways would be the convergence of telecommunications services, the provision of broadband services and also introduce low fees in the coming months. Mr. Mroue said one of the company aims is to cooperate with the Liberian media and help build their capacities
He said the company will continue to search the use of the most up-to-date technology in the telecommunication industry as it strives to improve customer satisfaction. He recounted the contributions Lonestar Cell has made since its establishment in Liberia. He said the company has played a major leadership role here. “We lead and others follow,” he added.
The company, as part of the MTN group with is in 21 countries in Africa and beyond, currently boast of nearly one million customers in Liberia alone, and has reached cities, towns and remote villages here. The company currently give away thousands of United States dollars in assorted prizes on a monthly basic to deserving customers through a monthly raffle draw. The prizes range from vehicles to televisions and bags of rice.
On it corporate social responsibility, the LCC chief said his company is restructuring its corporate social responsibility to establish a foundation that will be driven to reach out to schools, hospitals as well as address other social needs in the Liberian society. LCC as part of its corporate social responsibility has over the years provided supports to schools and hospitals in both the urban and rural areas of the country.
The company has also contributed immensely to government’s poverty reduction strategy in terms of providing support to urban and rural development activities, developing human resource capacity, providing medical aid, and promoting healthy competition.
