Vodafone Ghana Foundation has donated relief items to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to support them in the provision of relief to the people affected by the recent floods in Accra. Following the recent devastation of their office and retail shop at Circle, the telecommunication company took time out to ensure that other victims of the flood received help in rebuilding their lives.

Presenting the items on behalf of Vodafone Ghana Foundation, the Director of External Affairs, Patrick Boateng stated: ‘the objective of the Vodafone Foundation is to respond to emergencies such as what occurred last week in Accra. Vodafone will recover from the damage caused in our Circle office, but we are aware that hundreds of people are not that lucky and now homeless with nowhere to turn for help. This was in a release from the corperate communication unit of Vodafone dated 1 November, 2011.

As a telecoms brand that is committed to empowering individuals, we have to take action and help as many people as we can. I urge the general public to contribute through Red Alert, our fundraising platform where they can make a donation to help these victims recover from this devastation.’ Patrick Boateng added that as much as we cannot prevent these disasters, it is imperative to use technology to initiate programmes that will be readily available to assist people when they are faced with such natural disasters’

Vodafone Ghana is a total communications solutions provider – mobile, fixed lines, internet, voice and data – and is currently unmatched in providing fixed line and internet services – the leader and the first choice for Ghanaians.

Red Alert is an emergency fundraising platform that enables Vodafone customers to make a donation by dialling *133# and following the voice prompts to make a donation. The initiative is powered by the Vodafone Ghana Foundation and exists to assist government and disaster management organisations in the country to ease the plight of victims of the recent floods and address other issues relating to flooding in the country.

The donation, which included food items such as bags of rice, bags of cartons of oil, cartons of milk, cartons of soaps, etc. was received by NADMO officials at their headquarters in Accra. The National Coordinator of NADMO expressed his gratitude to Vodafone Ghana for coming to the aid of the flood victims.
