Federal Government of Nigeria showers Supper Eagles of Nigeria with gifts and national honour

By Shout-Africa Correspndent Chinyere Ogbonna – Nigeria’s President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan yesterday hosted the AFCON 2013 champions, the Supper Eagles of Nigeria to a rousing reception at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.

At the reception organized in their honour at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa,President Jonathan announced cash reward to the Supper Eagles and the coaching crew.

Coach Steven Kechi was rewarded with ten million naira, the assistant coaches were rewarded with five million naira each and the assistant coaches and the players were rewarded with five million naira while the technical assistants are to receive two million naira
respectively.

In addition, President Jonathan rewarded each member of the team with National Honours as well as a plot of land in Abuja, the nation’s capital territory.

The Chief Coach, Keshi bagged member of the order of the Niger(CON), while each of the three assistant coaches were honoured with the Order of the Niger(OON), Captain of the team also bagged OON, while the rest of the team members got. Member of the Order of the Niger(MON).

He assured the team that they will continue to enjoy his supports adding that with the victory of the team, the process of rebuilding the sports sector had begun.

President Jonathan stated that his administration would continue to give its sports a pride of place.

He told the Coach, Steven Keshi that he has his full support as the team starts preparation of the Qualification series towards the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

The president announced that other wealthy Nigerians like the chairman of Globacm. Chief Mike Adenuga, president Dangote Group of companies and Chief Emeka Offor had announced various cash rewards for the team during respective reception for them at a later date.

Before presenting the trophy to the president at the event, Chairman of the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, Aminu Meigari introduced the members of the team and the technical crew.

The Captain of the team, Joseph Yobo presented the trophy to NFF Chairman who in turn handed it to the Minister of Sports who presented it to President Jonathan.

In attendance were state governors, lawmakers government officials and well-meaning Nigerian.
