Tanzania: Opposition leader wants President’s friend, son prosecuted

as one of the most corrupt officials in the East African country. Dr. Slaa was speaking in a public rally in Igunga in Tabora region Western Tanzania.

He said Rostam owns more than 17 companies and with an annual return of Sh. 280 billion but questioned why his name appears nowhere in those companies. Dr. Slaa who ran for the presidency in the last general elections maintained that President Kikwete is not willing to deal with graft within his party and government contrary to his promises.

Dr. Slaa also vowed to investigate the activities of one of the President’s elder sons, Mr. Ridhiwani Kikwete. “I know he has accumulated a lot of wealthy while he has just finished college recently,” said Dr. Slaa. Ridhiwan a law graduate and now an advocate of the High Court of Tanzania, graduated from the University of Dar es Salaam in 2005 and in 2009 got his masters degree from the UK’s Hull University.

Responding to the allegations, Mr. Ridhiwan welcomed the investigations and will offer his support. “The problem with politicians is that they take words from the streets…I will offer him my support in his investigations,” said Ridhiwani who works with a Dar es Salaam based IMMMA advocates specializing in commercial law consultations and litigations.
