Liberia: NEC Retrieves Preliminary Results from the Referendum

By Nathan N. Mulbah – The National Elections Commission (NEC) has begun the retrieval of polling materials and preliminary results from voting precincts spread across the country following the peaceful conduct of yesterday’s National Referendum.

With the closure of the polls, counting and tallying of results are ongoing across the country and are being forwarded to NEC Headquarters. Owing to the slow pace at which results are filtering in from the field, the Commission will commence the release of provisional results on Thursday August 25, 2011.

Meanwhile, the Commission extends thanks to all local and international partners, observers, the media, community based and civil society organizations for monitoring the process. Thanks also go to all poll workers and NEC staff for the role they played during the exercise. The Commission also wishes to extend its thanks to all eligible voters who turned out to participate in the referendum.
