WWF Ride for Nature team conquers the Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge

Standing out in the crowd of thousands, an excited team of 80 WWF Ride for Nature cyclists participated in this year’s Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge. The perfect weather conditions combined with breath-taking city sights made for a charity challenge extravaganza.

The team of nature-loving cyclists consisted of pro cyclists and first-timers who all hit the road for the grueling race. “I had a great time, volunteers were helpful, the course was beautiful and very well marked. I look forward to doing this again next year,” said Ride for Nature team member, Shaniel Lakhoo.

“This is always my favourite ride of the year. From the top down, the whole family had a lot of fun. We will be back next year for sure,” said fellow WWF Ride for Nature team member, Riaan Fourie.

Launched at the beginning of this year, the Ride for Nature challenge gives cyclists an opportunity to make a statement for the planet, and ride in WWF colours in any race they plan to participate in throughout the year. Participating cyclists are given various tools and tips to fundraise online for conservation by using email and social media to ask friends, family and colleagues to sponsor their race.

The individual who raises the most money for WWF through the Ride for Nature 2013 campaign will win a sponsored Felt EDICT Nine 50 Mountain Bike, worth over R20 000.

“We are extremely proud of the success of this campaign so far and we hope to build momentum around our fundraising efforts and entice more cyclists to cycle for a cause,” said Dr Andrew Baxter, Head of Business Development at WWF-SA.

“Next on the calendar is the 2014 Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour and entries for the WWF Ride for Nature team is now open,” he continued.
