Radio journalist gunned down in Somalia

By Mohamed Nuxurkey – Journalist Abdulahi Omar Geddi who worked at the Daljir radio in Galkayo one of the biggest towns in the Somali’s semi-autonomous region of Portland was murdered by unknown men armed with pistols.

It is not yet clear why Geddi is killed but one of his colleagues there told for SHOUT AFRICA news online  that the journalist were producing programs of recovering general impact of the region as tensions squalled alongside the province,

Puntland authorities and also Galmudug state which are both controlling the area still done no efforts to investigate the killers,

Journalist organization for press freedom the reporters sans frontiers (RSF) condemned the brutal killing of human rights defenders in Somalia in particularly the journalists who devoted to sacrificed their valuable lives for the public interest in Somalia,

This brings the death toll of Somali killed journalists this year alone up to 2 journalists while 12 journalists had been murdered in Somalia since 2007 according to the South and Central Journalists Association (SOCJA).

As media professionals have often confronted for such terrifying acts from armed conflicts in the country.

We are sad to hear for the death of our colleague Abdulahi Omar who was one of the courageous reporters in the region said Rasmi Hebbow the secratery general of the Somalia Based South and Central Journalists Association (SOCJA).

We strongly urge the Puntland Goverment to do more about these media violations retaliation the journalists, this is not the first time and will not be the last she added.

Somalia is one of the dangerous zones for the journalists in the world as mass media is on the increase in the whole region of Horn of Africa which overwhelmed  by atrocious violence straightly for twenty years .
