Several residents in and around Monrovia and environs have complained on many occasions about the unhygienic conditions garbage posses to them and their communities.

The Parker Paint Community in District #4, Montserrado County is one of several communities facing serious solid waste problems.

In a bid to find a solution to the problem, some residents of the District have threatened law suit against the Paynesville City Corporation (PCC) for using their community as a garbage site.

The Parker Paint Community residents told the WASH Reporters & Editors Network of Liberia that the presence of huge pile of dirt is causing serious health hazard.

The residents disclosed that due to the filthiness of the area, malaria and other water borne diseases continue to be on the increase in the area.

The Paynesville residents said, they always have sleepless nights due to mosquitoes and other insects in their Community, resulting from huge piles of garbage.

The residents said that the Paynesville City Corporation (PCC) has designated their community for the disposal of solid waste, something they described as counter-productive.

The Parker Paint residents told WASH Journalists as part of the continuation of the Exclusive Media Focus on Sanitation, they have engaged the PCC on many occasions concerning the garbage in their community, but to no avail.

The residents want the garbage site on the main road around the old Parker Paint Factory relocated.

They noted that if the PCC fails to relocate the dump site which is located on the main street to another area, court action will be their next alternative.

The residents want their Law marker engage the PCC to ensure that the solid waste issue is resolved, and that the site is relocated.

They said it was very awful to see garbage on a route that is being used by visitors from other countries coming to Liberia as a  major dumpsite.

The Paynesville City Corporation (PCC) itself, has on many occasions spoken against huge piles of garbage in Paynesville, but continues to assure residents of exerted efforts to keep the City clean and green.
