As part of efforts to show appreciation, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has extolled outgoing Chinese Ambassador Zhou Yuxiao for helping to solidify the cordial relationship existing between Liberia and China during his tenure in the country.

Reflecting on the activities of Ambassador Zhou in Liberia, the President said they reflected Liberia’s national priorities, noting that the outgoing Chinese Ambassador was consistent in ensuring that China’s support for activities in Liberia reflected the Country’s own national priorities.

At a farewell reception over the weekend, the Liberian leader also spoke of the many opportunities and innovations accorded Liberians during the tenure of the Chinese diplomat, making particular mention of China’s support in the Agriculture, Health and Educational sectors, especially the provision of scholarships to study in China.

The President also commended Liberians for cooperating with the Chinese Mission in the discharge of its duties. She assured members of the Chinese Mission that Liberia will continue to work with the Government and people of China.

Ambassador Zhou in remarks, paid tribute to Liberia for the level of security and stability achieved in the Country, and expressed pride to have been part of the peace building efforts.

According to him, the strong bilateral relationship existing between the two Countries had been demonstrated by the exchange of visits between the two Presidents in 2006 and 2007, respectively.  The relations, he said, have also produced among other projects which include a new Embassy, military barracks, hospitals, schools, and training opportunities.

Ambassador Zhou promised that his Country will continue to support Liberia’s recovery program, including the construction of a well-equipped vocational institution, the provision of more scholarships, and more budgetary support to already completed projects like the Jackson F. Doe Memorial Referral Hospital in Tappita, Nimba County.

Ambassador Zhou also expressed gratitude to all branches of government, political parties and civil society for the cooperation he received during his tenure as China’s Ambassador to Liberia.
