…. signs WASH pledge card –By: WASH R&E “Media” Network – One of the leading political parties in Liberia, Liberty Party, has promised to prioritize WASH, especially access to safe water across the country.
Liberty Party’s Standard Bearer, Charles Brumskine has assured Liberians if elected as President of the Republic of Liberia, citizens will be provided pipe borne water across the country.
Cllr. Brumskine said it a shame as one of Africa’s oldest republic, citizens are still drinking from rivers and creeks across the country.
He said this along is retarding the growth and progress of Liberia and putting the citizen’s health at risk.
The LP Standard Bearer commended united Youth and WaterAid Liberia for such an initiative to quiz political candidates on what they have in the manifestos for WASH.
According to him, signing a WASH Pledge card is a clear documentary evidence the citizens have on each candidate concerning their support to the WASH sector of the country.
For her part, the Policy Officer of WaterAid Liberia, Patience Zayzay said the idea is intended to create the platform for politicians seeking elected office to inform Liberians about what will do for WASH when elected.
Miss Zayzay said this Strategy has played a pivotal role in the signing of the WASH Bill by the National Legislature.
Also speaking, the Executive Director of United Youth, Timothy Kpeh thanked the Liberty Party Standard Bearer for signing unto the pledge card.
Mr. Kpeh said, the signing of the card by the LP Standard Bearer is a sign that if elected he will be supportive of WASH initiatives in the country.
The WASH Election Campaign Initiative is supported by the British Charity WaterAid as a way of ensuring that elected representatives are supportive of the WASH sector of Liberia.
This form of advocacy by the WASH CSOs was introduced in the 2011 Legislative and Presidential Elections, with the WASH Media leading the Process on behalf of WASH Civil Society Organizations in Liberia.
This strategy has created the passion for WASH by several Lawmakers who presently have established themselves into a Group called WASH Legislative Network.
As part of the effort to ensure WASH for all, Liberty Party wants to provide safe drinking water for everyone, everywhere across Liberia.
The Party says Cllr. Charles W. Brumskine will make sure EVERY LIBERIAN IS ACCESSIBLE TO CLEAN WATER by 2023!
According to the Party, LP will use government budget and work with local and international partners to pipe borne water and construct free safe wells across the entire country.
The Party says as the result of this: Every Liberian will have access to affordable improved water source by 2023 (end of first presidential term).
