The South African Success Summit geared to empower SME entrepreneurs

The annual Success Summit, launched in Johannesburg in 2012, is going national. The brainchild of Dr Nondumiso Mzizana, the Businesswomen’s Association Businesswoman of the Year for the year 2011, the summit will now also take place in Durban, Polokwane and White River (Mpumalanga) during the months of June and July.

Success Summit is a unique concept, featuring a series of presentations, Q&A sessions and workshops specifically designed to enable and empower entrepreneurs, who often have very little support during either the start-up or development phases of their businesses. It also offers delegates a meaningful opportunity to network and develop long-term business relationships, as well as to receive updates on the latest developments in the regulatory environment, business management and the behavioural sciences.

“Success Summit has been very well received by entrepreneurs in Johannesburg,” says Dr Mzizana, “and there has been a demand for it to be rolled out to other major centres around the country. We’re therefore very pleased to be able to take it to SMEs in three other cities this year.”

Each session of Success Summit will feature speakers who are all specialists in their fields, and will deal with issues such as innovation, financial planning, taxation, labour regulations and access to financing. There will also be industry-specific presentations addressing current issues in such key sectors as manufacturing, retail, construction, tourism, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, finance, agriculture and the media.

The first of this year’s national Success Summits will take place at the Radisson Blu Gautrain Hotel in Sandton on 6 June. This will be followed by summits at the Protea Winkler Hotel in White River (Mpumalanga) on 20 June, and at the Suncoast Conference Centre in Durban on 27 June. The last of the four summits will be held at the Fusion Boutique Hotel in Polokwane on 11 July,

At each of these events, entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to meet and network with leading businesspeople from both home and abroad, as well as to connect with their peers. The accompanying exhibition will also present the chance to find out more about investment financing and other services for SMEs.

“What is very important about Success Summit is that the organisers have walked the talk,” says Dr Mzizana. “All of us have personal experience of dealing with the issues and challenges facing entrepreneurs every day, and wish to empower others facing the same challenges.”

Success Summit is organised and partly funded by Dr Mzizana’ s medical supplies company, Sikelele, which has partnered with the economic development departments in Gauteng, Kwa-Zulu Natal, Limpopo and Mpumalanga as well as the municipalities of Joburg, eThekwini, Polokwane and Mbombela to bring this important event to South Africa’s SMEs.

“South Africa has such incredible entrepreneurial spirit and so many extraordinary business opportunities,” says Dr Mzizana, “and it is our aim to ensure that those who have the desire and potential to start and develop their own businesses have access to all of the information and support they need. As organisers, we are deeply committed to realising the potential South Africa has to develop a vibrant and productive SME sector.”
