Sierra Leone’s 52nd Independence Anniversary was celebrated as a simply elegant and classy fundraising event for Sierra Leone without excessive glitter. A special thanks to all who attended the fundraising event and donated generously. On hand to receive a “Leap of Faith Award” for their contributions to education and health care were Mr. Cecil John and Vianka, key executives of The John Trust Fund.

Speaking on behalf of the trust fund, Mr. John, commended SSLF’S efforts and pledged their organization’s support towards seeking a better Sierra Leone for all. Frostburg University Student Association also got an award for their generous donation of schools supplies in aid of children’s education in Sierra Leone. Humanitarian Ms. Raylene Sage was also present to receive an award for her conscientious work in Sierra Leone.  Ms. Sage is currently sponsoring 17 children in Sierra Leone, providing them with medical and dental care, school tuition and supplies and food and shelter assistance.

SSLF members will travel to Sierra Leone later this year as part of the organization’s yearly obligations of donating funds and services to crisis areas all over the country. SSLF will continue to provide solid evidence of its practices to all donors as part of its transparency efforts. SSLF also recently formed a working partnership with United Sierra Leone Sisters Inc. (USLS Inc.), a vibrant group of women seeking the welfare of women in all areas of the country. Our website will soon have links to all of our partners.

Just hours after celebrating the fundraising event, SSLF President, Patricia Omo Thorpe, PR Director Sully Hamid, and CEO of Sierra Leone Association of Artists and Musicians (SLAAM) Giileh Kebbie Scholz, satisfactory concluded tough negotiations with entrepreneur and owner of “Mingles at Golden Bull” Mr. Andy Sawyer on behalf of all Sierra Leonean philanthropic groups seeking a top notch venue for their fund raising efforts in the Washington DC metropolitan area.

“It is a simple deal that benefits the community” Patricia Thorpe said, “A win – win situation for all,” echoed Sully Hamid and “a classic environment for our clientele” remarked Giileh.

Because of the understanding between SSLF and Mingles, all genuine Sierra Leonean non-profit associations in the Diaspora will be allowed to raise funds for their school or college alumni, groups, associations, churches, or self-empowerment project at their new Lounge:

MINGLES AT GOLDEN BULL is located at 9107 RIGGS ROAD, ADELPHI, MD 20783.

Simply put, register your non-profit organization or association with SSLF, round up your family friends and associates on an agreed upon Friday night, just go to Mingles, and have fun. Your first drink or the cost of your first drink averaging $5.-10.00 will go to your alumni association, groups or organization as long as you are genuinely raising funds for Education, Better Health Care, Poverty Alleviation and Empowerment of Sierra Leoneans.

SSLF’s mission is to support all genuine groups helping to rebuild Sierra Leone. Andy Sawyer, a great Humanitarian himself who can relate to the poverty level in Sierra Leone was quite willing to help. Andy a recipient of SSLF’S Top Humanitarian Hall of Fame Award (2012) understands that only continuous funding will help us all achieve our goals. SSLF will set up a calendar to accommodate every advocating group to fund raise within the legal permit of Montgomery and Prince George’s County, it means – come early and be ready to leave by 1.30 am.

Mingles at Golden Bull is a warm glowing, family friendly bar and lounge.  The ambience is just scintillating.  A nice dance floor, cozy lounge chairs, soft red lights, oldies music to listen or just reminisce with, and decent well-dressed customers just reliving the Sierra Leone life are the simple pleasures Mingles provide.

“MINGLES IS BEING IN SIERRA LEONE IN THE USA”- said Patricia. Sully Hamid PR Director of SSLF enjoys the delicious food – Fish, grilled, roasted or fried; chicken and beef kebabs; plantain, pepper soup and salads for those trying to stay slim; foofoo and bitter leaf; cassava leaves, potato leaves even Krain Krain and Okra soup; if it is not available order it and next week you will have it, Mingles aims to please all its customers. A regular customer stated “if yu nor believe cam day nor more” meaning come and see for yourself.

On this note, SSLF is inviting all Sierra Leoneans in the area reading this press release to come to Mingles at Golden Bull this Friday May 3, 2013 to meet and greet our members and support our humanitarian effort.   Please pass the word out (best means of communication).  SSLF thanks our Media Directors, Gibril Koroma and Dennis Kabatto for their loyal support and prompt action in getting media coverage with Cocorioko and other newspapers in a very quick turnaround time.  Thank you Gibril, thank you Dennis may you be prosperous in your work life.

See you all on Fridays at Mingles at Golden Bull.

Happy Anniversary to all.
