The university has more than 1,300 alumni based in Nigeria and several representatives have travelled from Aberdeen to host receptions in two of the country’s most populous cities.

Alumni relations officer Tracy Ewing and regional manager Jamie Hastings will attend the events which will provide guests with the opportunity to network with other RGU alumni and international staff. Guests will also be asked to consider becoming alumni volunteers to help organise future events and promote the university to prospective students.

The first reception is at The Protea Hotel in Lagos on Tuesday, May 21 and the second is at The Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Nigeria’s capital city, Abuja, on Thursday, May 23.

Both Tracy and Jamie are looking forward to the events and will share their experiences of the university with delegates.

Miss Ewing said: “RGU has continued to expand its efforts to reconnect with our alumni and we have more than 85,000 graduates worldwide. One of our main aims for this visit is to re-engage with alums in Nigeria and welcome them back into the RGU Community, an ambition which is highlighted in RGU’s ‘A Clear Future’ strategy.

“Many of our international alumni have expressed an interest in giving something back to RGU by connecting with and inspiring prospective and current students at networking opportunities. By becoming an alumni volunteer you can make a difference and help the next generation of RGU alumni achieve their ambitions as well as enhance your own professional skills.

“Jamie and I hope to encourage and inspire all the alumni we meet to get involved in our volunteering programme, help them to reconnect with their Alma Mater, rekindle old friendships and hopefully make new ones too.”

RGU’s alumni team help former students stay connected with the university, fellow alums and current students. It also provides opportunities to engage with and support the RGU community around the world. For more information, please visit:http://www.rgu.ac.uk/alumni
