Miss GTEL Face of Zimbabwe grand finale set for December 15

In one of the move that can be said to benefit or revive the status of the Zimbabwe modelling industry, the country will soon witness the hosting of a unique pageant Miss GTEL Face of Zimbabwe on 15 December 2012 at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC), Rainbow Towers. The pageant, which will be held under the theme, Embracing Technology in celebrating Zimbabwe’s Beauty, aims at diffusing the essence technology in fostering the celebration not only of the individuals’ beauty but also of the country as a tourism destination.

The pageant, Miss GTEL Face of Zimbabwe will see its first hosting in the country as a result of the partnership between the two parties, Face of Zimbabwe (FOZ) Trust – which is of the country’s highly rated pageants and the only online operated pageant and GTEL, a leading mobile phones and Accessories Company in Zimbabwe and is the main sponsor for the event. The pageant is expected to draw participants from Zimbabwe and also from other cou8ntriies such as the United Kingdom, United States of America, Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, among others.

The competition, run by Face of Zimbabwe Trust and sponsored by G Telecoms, seeks to promote Zimbabwe, especially in the global world whilst mobilizing funds for the FOZ Charity drive – ‘My Brother’s Keeper’. This charity programme is currently outsourcing funding for 24 orphans in Epworth and also long-term funding for the underprivileged children in Zimbabwe. We are also pleased to announce Sleep Make Up who are coming on board to support the girls as they prepare for the finals, they will also contribute to the prizes including a year’s supply of Sleek products.

The pageant is based on public voting which is moderated by some highly experienced judges who selects a winner every month. The judging panels consists of the popular ‘One ariega’ acoustic/afro jazz/urban musician, Cee Jay Besa who is based in Texas, US, Priscilla ‘Miss Airwaves’ Nalana, an Ireland based radio presenter who had a long and distinguished career as a broadcaster with South African Radio station ‘Bop’, SA based businesswoman and events co-ordinator Spiwe Sibiya. The judging panel is completed by two models, UK based Caroline Kumbukami who was crowned Miss Valentine, 2010 and SA based model and  ‘I will Mary Myself’ actor, Melgin Tafirenyika. Melgin is currently signed to G3 Agency in South Africa.

A unique feature of the competition is its engagement of the public who vote for the monthly finalists and the final winner.

Despite launching only last year,  Face of Zimbabwe has established itself as an exciting and relevant competition making a positive impact internationally and raising significant sums of money for charitable causes in Zimbabwe. The pageant has been highly successful in capturing the beauty of Zimbabweans of all colours scattered all over the world, showcasing the country’s many beautiful faces whilst drawing attention to the tourist destinations. The competition has so far fielded entries from Zimbabweans in more than 20 countries from as far as Turkey, Dubai, China, Canada, UK, USA, Botswana, Malawi, Cyprus and even Russia among others.

Prizes for the winners will include over $3000 cash for the winner among other prizes.  The prizes, which are sponsored by G-Telecoms and Sleek Make UP, will transform Face of Zimbabwe into the most lucrative pageant in the country.

The event however will witness great performances from artists such as Amara Brown, Nox, Sulu Chimbetu, Stunner and ExQ, among others. More so, the United States- based Artist and FOZ judge, CeeJay Besa is also billed to make an appearance on the event.

The competition will also be spiced up by several wildcards who include, Cynthia Qongo, current Miss Southern Africa – Letwin Tiwaringe and Shamiso Chifokoyo, among others. Former Miss Zimbabwe, Malaika Mushandu was recently appointed the FOZ Brand Ambassador to prepare the contestants for the finals.
