London Evening of Afro-Jazz with Mashasha & Sam

London revellers can join Zim artists this Thursday (7:00pm – 10:00pm) for an evening of Afro-Jazz as the Book Cafe in Unit K presents Mashasha & Sam(plus guests) and DJ Koichi Sakai (Ghetto lounge) at Open The Gate.

Afro jazz

MASHASHA is a composer, bass player, guitarist and singer from Zimbabwe. Best known as Harare’s most in-demand session bassist, he was first “discovered” as a teenager by his neighbour Oliver Mutukudzi, the towering figure of Zimbabwean popular music, and he played his first professional gig, supporting Oliver, at the age of 19.

Mashasha first collaborated with Sam Chagumachinyi in spectacular Harare Afro-jazz band Too Open, and reunited in London they have been causing a storm. Sam is Zimbabwe’s number one percussion master, and as comfortable with a calabash as a full drum kit. Prepare to be dazzled.
