Ghana: RLG Communications partners Africa Digital Week 2011, set for 26th July

By Peterking Quaye – Come, Tuesday, 26th July, Accra the capital of Ghana will experience the presence of the digital technology in Africa and how influence as well as impact on our society today.

Under the auspices of the Ministry of Communication, the African Institute for Development Informatics and Policy (AIDIP), Ghana; PearlRichards Foundation, Ghana, United Nations Development Programme, Ghana (UNDP, Ghana); Africa e-governance Academy (AfegA) (an OSIWA and UNDP Initiative), Ghana and RLG Communications, Ghana comes the Africa Digital Week 2011  .

RLG Communications, currently ranked among Africa’s future development in the mobile telecommunications industry, the company is bridging the gap to present and promote mobile handset manufacture in Africa for Africa .The mobile phone assembling company, fast expanding creating a niche for itself in the mobile handset industry in Ghana, Nigeria, Gambia among other. In 2009/2010, about Six Thousand (6,000) beneficiary youth across Ghana were trained in the assembly of mobile phones, computers and other ICT devices. Currently, arrangement are being finalized for an additional Twenty Four Thousand (24,000) youth to be trained in the applied ICT module based on the sterling success achieved in the previous projects executed under the scheme and the enthusiasm it generated among all the key stakeholders.

The week will have one conference, two workshops and a three-day exhibition. The Africa Digital Week is the first of its kind to be organized on the continent of Africa. The week-long event seeks to explore how modern technologies could be use harness development in resource-poor contexts especially in Africa. Africa Digital Week 2011 is themed – “My Dream for A Digital Africa”. The objective of Africa Digital Week is to explore how new and emerging technologies can contribute to socio-economic development and good governance in Africa. It will be a place for discourse and debate on novel approaches to building a better Africa through new and emerging technologies.

In a latest release the event will engage Ghanaian Parliamentarian at the British Council ,to discuss wide range of issue in the digital age of Africa looking how technology can aid their work and support governance among other issue ,this event is expect to come off this week .

After a successful, launch last month the main event promises to be ignite the digital landscape of Africa and hoping to expand the level dominance on the continent with top research finding and presentations from expertise from across the continents, meet the minds that are changing the digital world in Accra during the week, this is what Africa Digital week is filled with.

Africa Digital Week 2011 comes off next week at the Alisa Hotel, Accra, Ghana, starting from 26 to 29 July, 2011. Delegates for this conference are expected from Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda, Malawi, Ethiopia, and Liberia. Africa Digital Week will seek to:

  • Discuss the experiences of African governments, private and non-governmental institutions in using new and emerging digital technologies (social media, mobiles and internet-enabled technologies) to interact and provide services to the consumers and citizens;
  • Promote the strategic understanding of the role of digital technologies in achieving the millennium development goals and good governance in Africa and other developing countries;
  • Educate participants on how to harness these new technologies (especially social media and mobiles) to achieve organizational or institutional objectives.
