Zambia: Mampi for continental awards

Zambian Correspondent – Zambian musician, Mampi has been nominated for the prestigious 2014 All African Music Awards (AFRIMA).The Love Recipe hit maker was unveiled recently at a World Press Conference in Lagos, Nigerian ahead of the ceremony billed for November 9.

Speaking in an interview, Harare based Media and Music Entertainment Executive, Delani Makhalima, said he is excited with outcome for the nominees.

“I am excited for all the nominees,” said Makhalima.

He added that the accolade will continue to reinforce relevance of Southern African music to the international community.

Makhalima who was responsible of making known the relevant musicians in the Southern African region said, “This is a sign that we have music down south that can shake and move the globe. It will continue reinforcing the relevance and potential of other music genres and make known the relevant musicians in the Southern African region.”

Makhalima is an adjudication committee member who sits of the AFRIMA panel that comprises of music industry professionals from Kenya, Benin Republic, Uganda, Egypt, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Cameroon Guinea Bissau, UK and USA.

Mampi proved her salt when she secured Zambia’s only nomination in the category of best female artiste in Southern Africa. The dazzling star will battle it out against multi-award winning South African songbird Zahara, Zimbabwe’s Cindy Munyavi, Dama Do Bling from Mozambique, Lira from South Africa and another Mozambique’s highly quoted firebrand by the name of Lizah James.

Meanwhile, 30 of the 33 award categories will open for voting by the public.
