Maverick rapper mUnetsi, announced today that he is giving away five free spill-over tracks off his last EP effort,Chaminuka- Zimbabwe Superhero. The giveaway comes as the lyricist prepares to take the stage at tomorrow’s Shoko International Spoken Word and Hip Hop Festival in Harare, alongside top Germany DJ Andi Teichmann.

Another star, Gerald “Synik” Mugwenhi, who is riding on a wave since the launch of his debut album, Syn City, is also giving away 200 copies of the LP to the first revellers to buy tickets for the festival.

Both Synik and mUnetsi perform tomorrow and have collaborated on the former’s conscious cut, Afr-I-Can, off Syn City.

mUnetsi said: “The response from the EP release in July has been great and returning to perform at Shoko for the second year running, demonstrates that I’m still relevant as an artist on the hip hop scene.”

“The five tracks we are giving away to fans today is a token of thanks and a fore-taste of what they should expect at the festival tomorrow. It’s both exciting and challenging as I will share my set with Andi, who is a reputed international DJ in his own right. I also look forward to playing with Amara Brown, as well as Flexxo and Psykotek,” the rapper added.

Synik on the other hand, has added a bonus track in the form of a remix of the captivating skit, Marching As One.

Fresh from a tour of South Africa where he performed at the Arts Alive Festival earlier this month, Synik released the track online on Sunday.

“The plan is to give away the special LP to the first 200 people to acquire tickets for Shoko festival. The Shoko gig is going to be an explosive set which will bring Syn City to life. Backed by a full band, I will be going through the album along with some of the collaborators such as Tehn Diamond, mUnetsi, Jnr Brown, Aura, Prayer Soul, Kito and others,” Synik added.

The Shoko International Spoken Word & Hip Hop Festival is a celebration of poetry, hip-hop and urban culture that strives for positive social change and democracy that was organised by Farai “Cde Fatso” Monro‘s Magamba Cultural Activist Network.

Now in its second year, the festival encompasses live concerts, an artists’ debate, an international poetry slam, film screenings, live recordings, live graffiti and a cultural activist conference.
