Shaka Zulu Resurrects at the World Cup

Shout-Africa Entertainment – The South African State Theatre in Pretoria will present a musical take on one of the country’s most famous and controversial historical figures – Shaka Zulu – from 26 June to 18 July. Produced by Packed House Productions in association with Absa, the musical is being staged as a special cultural offering to entice tourists in Tshwane during the FIFA World Cup™ and is being touted as a lavish, dramatic family spectacular. The play was written by Samson Khumalo, Sean Else and Deon Opperman and is directed by Opperman and Khumalo. The original music is by Johan Vorster.

In the lead role is Thokozani Nzima, a talented young singer and actor who recently appeared in the South African production of The Full Monty. Candida Mosoma plays Shaka’s beloved mother Nandi, while Phumi Mncayi plays his scheming half-brother Dingaan. Sello Sebotsane is Dingiswayo, the Mthethwa chief and Shaka’s mentor, and Lindani Nkosi narrates the show in the guise of an all-knowing sangoma.

Performances will take place on Wednesday to Friday at 20h00, Saturdays at 15h00 and 20h00, and on Sundays at 14h00.
