Pop Star Unveiled As Judge For Disney Channel’s My Camp Rock Talent Contest

Johannesburg – Disney Channel today announced that pop star Heinz Winckler has been lined up as a celebrity guest judge for Disney Channel’s My Camp Rock talent contest. The contest is part of the channel’s road show events taking place in Cape Town on 11th September and Pretoria on 12th September where there will be a host of Camp Rock themed activities including a performance from Jesse Clegg, mentor ‘rockshops’ and prize giveaways. The two mall events celebrate the hugely anticipated original movie Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam, which premieres at 09:00 on 18th September.

Singing sensation, Heinz Winckler, will lend his expertise as a celebrity judge for the My Camp Rock talent contest which sees the channel searching for the next generation of young music talent. Budding stars aged 8 to 16 will have the opportunity to perform a Camp Rock song in open auditions from 10:00 to 12:45 at each event*. The top three acts will be called back later that day to perform in front of crowds at the Final Jam when a winner from each event will be chosen.

Kids and families are invited to attend the free events where Jesse Clegg, one of South Africa’s hottest stars, is set to delight crowds when he takes to the stage to perform his smash hits. Rap and hip hop favourite, HHP, will share the secrets of his success with special ‘rockshops’ including a performance alongside other mentors who will teach kids how to perform like Demi Lovato and Jonas Brothers with singing and dancing tutorials. The proceedings will be hosted by radio and TV personality Pabi Moloi, and will feature a variety of competitions and prize giveaways.

Heinz Winckler shot to fame in 2002 after winning the first series of South African Idols. He has since become a household name and has released four studio albums with the most recent being Ek Kan Weer In Liefde Glo in 2009. Heinz was also nominated for two South African Music Awards (SAMAs) including best single for Once In A Lifetime, his debut single. Heinz also supported Westlife on their South African tour and recorded the song Chasing Shadows for the South African release of the Disney movie, Treasure Planet.

Since its premiere, Camp Rock has reached more than 137 million unduplicated viewers, and Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato are set to rock South Africa in Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam, a full out rock ‘n roll musical that celebrates music, dance and the freedom of summer and reminds viewers to ‘enjoy the journey’, when it premieres at 09:00 on 18th September on Disney Channel South Africa.
