This month in the build up to 50 years of Congo we have the legendary Congolese band Kasaï Masaï before they start their own summer festival tour. And once again the virtuoso African Drums and Bass duo Mashasha and Sam, this Zimbabwean pair are the Paw Paw Jam resident band for a reason! On the decks will be the magnificent DJ Koichi Sakai of Afrobeat Vibrations!!! Yes Indeed!! This is Paw Paw Jam!

Paw Paw Jam (world cup special)

Kasaï Masaï

A 5 piece outfit, consisting of d’jembe, guitar, saxophone, bass and drum. To add that extra exotic touch they are also joined occasionally by two female dancers! It is led by percussionist, singer and dancer, Voodoo King Nickens Nkoso. Nickens is a well known figure in the world music circuit.

Mashasha and Sam

MASHASHA is a composer, bass player, guitarist and singer from Zimbabwe. Best known as Harare’s most in-demand session bassist, he was first “discovered” as a teenager by his neighbour Oliver Mutukudzi, the towering figure of Zimbabwean popular music, and he played his first professional gig, supporting Oliver, at the age of 19.

Mashasha first collaborated with Sam Chagumachinyi in Harare band Too Open, and reunited in London they have been causing a storm as the Paw Paw Jam resident band. Check out a special moment with Sam’s drum solo from the April Paw Paw Jam show here!
