Ghana: Winneba Youth Choir to participate in BUSAN 2010 choral festival

Morkporkpor Ank (Accra, Ghana) – The Winneba Youth Choir will participate in this year’s BUSAN 2010 Choral Music festival and competition in Korea.

The event is intended to bring choirs from across the world and Korea together to compare, collaborate and learn from internationally famous conductors and experts.

The event is scheduled for November 10-13, which will see choirs participating in four different categories, namely mixed voices, equal voices, ethnic and popular music.

Mr Edusei Derkyi, Secretary of the Choir, said this on Thursday when they paid a courtesy call on officials of the Ghana Ministry of Tourism to officially inform them of their participation in the festival.

He said the group was determined to lift high the flag of Ghana and Africa during the festival.

He said the group would be competing in the ethnic session, which was made up of the traditional music, movement, dance and traditional instruments.

“We are going to sing songs from all the ten regions of Ghana and also African songs from South Africa, Zimbabwe etc.”

Mr Derkyi commended the Ministry for its enormous support to the group over the years, especially towards their preparation for the event.

Mrs Sabah Zita Okaikoi, Minister of Tourism, commended members of the group for their hard work over the years and expressed the hope that they would make Ghana proud at the competition.

“The Winneba Youth Choir has always made Ghana proud during major events and we believe they will do same,” she said.

She said the Ministry acknowledged the important role music played in the promotion of tourism and would do all it took to promote Ghanaian music.
