Ghana : ICONS: Diva’s Edition hit TV with huge viewership

By Peterking Quaye – Vodafone’s much anticipated ICONS: Diva’s Edition hit Ghanaian TV screens last Sunday at 8:00pm. The ground-breaking reality TV show lived up to its hype and delivered the gut-wrenching laughs as well as the inspiring ‘oohs and aahs’ it professed to. Sunday’s show highlighted some of the best and not so good talents in Ghana; there were some serious misses and some outstanding hits from the ladies. Viewers have taken to Facebook to voice their fascination with the new hit. With showing on  TV3 ,NET 2,Metro TV, Crystal TV .

The ICONS Facebook Wall has registered an impressive 1338 ‘likes’ following the first episode. Serious debates are ongoing on the ICONS Ghana Facebook wall over which contestant is most likely win, only a week after the show premiered.  Families and friends have taken to spurring on their relations who have so far been shortlisted. ICONS followers have also expressed their anticipation for the second episode due to air this Sunday, 20th February 2011.

Benny Blanco, host of the show, has proven to be a sensational hit with the ladies with his witty remarks and up-tempo style. Viewers have expressed delight at the judge’s line up for the auditions stage last week which saw talented hip-hop producer Jayso, Ghanaian actress AMA K, and YFM’s DJ Kess make outstanding appearances. They are also anticipating that the iconic Judges will make their debut on the next episode and are staying tuned for what is rumoured to be a grand appearance.

What was evident last week is that ICONS is in a league of its own; with the high quality entertainment, creative graphics and impressive judge’s line-up.

The selected ‘divas-in-the-making’ will undergo voice and choreography training, fitness regimes and complete make-over’s before the final auditions. The grand prize at stake in the ‘ICONS: – Divas Edition’ reality show includes a major record deal, a GH¢20,000 cash prize for each Diva and an exclusive performance at ‘020 live’, Vodafone Ghana’s annual music spectacular. With debates already rife on Facebook, it would certainly be interesting to hear what viewers have to say following the compelling twist and turns as well as laughter and tears that ICONS guarantees on this week’s episode.
