BKay & Kazz to perform in Zimbabwe

By Kenneth Matimaire -MUTARE, ZIMBABWE – UK based Zimbabwean afro-pop duo BKay & Kazz are expected to reconnect with their roots when they perform in the country on September 1.

AFRICAN SPIRIT - Bkay and Kazz smallThe homecoming show will be held at Arcadia Hall. It is being organised by Serious DJs Africa – a collaboration between two local disk jockeys – The Dude and DJ L-Roy.

Though this is their first big gig in show business, the co-show promoter, The Dude promised to make it worthwhile as the afro-pop stars will be backed by a live band – Boomslang. The show will also feature an opening act from a talented hip hop artiste Tatea Da MC who he has been working with.

BKay & Kazz are expected to arrive in the country in early August.

The multiple award-winning brothers will make their first stop in South Africa before proceeding to Zimbabwe where they are expected to spend a month before their departure.

“We are bringing BKay and Kazz from the UK to perform here (Zimbabwe),” The Dude said.

He added, “The only artiste I have worked with is Tatea Da MC who is making an opening act but that was all small scale compared to this (BKay and Kazz show).”

Quizzed on why he chose to promote the duo, The Dude said, “I respect their talent. I have seen them perform and their music works all-round, their tracks carter for all Zimbabweans.”

Meanwhile, the sibling super group have set their sights on astounding the international music scene with the launch of their third album, “African Spirit” this summer.

It features two singles, “Amina Kadeya” and “7 Wonders,” which was adopted by the Zimbabwean Tourism Board.

The album comes as the brothers are riding high on the crest of a wave of success. They won the prestigious 2011Zimbabwe Achievers Awards Best Male Song. They have toured Africa with US pop sensation Sean Kingston, and opened shows for some top acts such as Jay Sean, Omarion, Sisqo, Mr Vegas, Marques Houston, Ne-Yo amongst others.

Born Seiraj Khan (BKay) and Farhaan Khan (Kazz), the two packed their bags in 2007 to set a new base in the UK.

They were crowned the ultimate winners of the Live & Unsigned UK – the second biggest talent show in the UK after shrugging stiff competition from 30,000 eager contestants and have never looked back ever since.
