Accompanied by her band the Azania Quartet featuring Shawn Whitley on bass, Marvin Dolly on guitar, Yeissonn Villamar on keyboards and drummer Zane Rodulfo, she will perform beautiful soul music at an exclusive concert for Artists You Ought to Know (AYOTK) Series Thursday, September 12 at 7:30 pm at Billie’s Black in New York City.

Her concert will feature some new songs she co-wrote with producer Jeremiah Abiah from her upcoming album to be released next year.

During a live interview Sunday on African New Dawn Radio show hosted by Sheila Van Diver on WRSU, 88.7 FM at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey, Azania announced she would kick off a month long European tour on Monday, September 16 with performances in Switzerland and Italy among other countries.

Originally, from Sierra Leone, West Africa, Azania has been lighting up stages in Europe, the United States of America, Africa and Asia for many years.  She has performed in legendary venues such as the Blue Note jazz club in NY and in world-renown music festivals and has entertained several Heads of States around the world.

Last month she was invited to Essence Magazine for an interview and showcase for a soon to be published issue.  She was also chosen for the cover and feature article in the debut publication of Echoes Africa Magazine.

“I believe my purpose is to touch and uplift people through singing.  God gave me this gift for a reason and I intend to use it well.  Every song carries a message and a feeling.  If that message is expressed with heart and soul, it can resonate with other people’s emotions and can be very powerful.  It becomes a part of you and you feel connected to the singer and the song,” Azania said.

Showtime for Thursdays performance is 7:30 pm, Billie’s Black is located at: 271 West 119th St. in Manhattan, New York
