Call for Abstracts: 2nd Protest Arts International Festival
Savanna Trust in collaboration with the University of Zimbabwe Theatre Arts Department invites artists, media experts, civic society leaders, academics and human rights activists to submit abstracts and performance, exhibition/workshop proposals. The theme for this year is: “Protest Arts, Culture and Democracy: Imagining and Inventing the Future”
Festival/Symposium sub-themes
Transformative arts education for democracy. Identity and democracy in protest culture – reconstructing race, class, gender and ethnicity for democratic engagement. Artistic and cultural engagement with constitution-making processes. Visual Arts and democratic commitment for the future. Pitfalls and possibilities of ideological commitment in artistic and
cultural works. The politics of culture and performance – funding, democratic principles and practices in arts organizations. Arts, culture, religion and the prophetic voice for democracy Towards a critical spectatorship for a critical citizenry.
