Zimbabwe: Diaspora initiative ZimThrive announces calendar events

Diaspora enterprise, ZimThrive has announced key calendar events that will take place throughout the month of April 2020 in Zimbabwe. The month-long initiative, running under the theme Homecoming, will hold events in Harare, Bulawayo, Victoria Falls, Chimanimani, Nyanga and Kariba, among other destinations, from 1-30 April.

LIBERIA: $18 Million USD raw water pipeline project launched

The Liberian government and the Millennium Challenge Account over the weekend broke grounds for the construction of an 18 Million United States dollars Raw Water Pipeline in White Plains, outside Monrovia. It will be constructed between the Mt. Cofee Hydro Plant and the White Plains Water Treatment Plant. The pipeline will ensure the delivery safe drinking water supply to nearly million residents of Monrovia and environs.

This past Sunday the 29th of September 2019, 1986 people gathered at the Harare Botanical Gardens to fly Kites for Peace. This was in celebration of the UN International Day of Peace. It was a day where people flew kites and participated in other recreational activities in the hope of "recreating" their lives with elements of joy, peace and light. They flew kites, met amazing people from all walks of life, learnt about and supported good causes in their communities, they spent time with their loved ones, they were entertained by amazing local talent, they feasted, they were joyful, happy and found their peace through joyful activity.

Academia, development partners discuss climate change actions at SUNY-UWI Symposium

The effects of climate change are so dire and pervasive that approximately, 4 million children and young people worldwide took to the streets recently to demand action from world leaders to exert more efforts in tackling the climate change crisis. In New York City, while an estimate 60,000 students marched through the streets of downtown Manhattan calling for climate action, academics from the University of the West Indies (UWI), THE State University of New York (SUNY), the joint SUNY-UWI Center, the Global University Consortium on SDG-13, a wide cross section of development partners including the World Bank, the International Development Bank (IDB), UNDP, UNECLAC, Association of Caribbean States (ACS) convened at SUNY Global Center in New York City for a Global Partnerships for Climate Action Symposium.

Liberia: WASH Media & CSOs training successfully conducted in South East

An Intensive Training to ensure increased WASH Media and CSO professionals’ attention for more awareness and advocacy on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) issues, has successfully taken place in the South Eastern Region of Liberia. The 3-Day WASH Training was designed to strengthen the capacity of Media and civil society actors and create bigger platforms to articulate community voices to access better water and sanitation facilities. The Training held in Fish Town City, River Gee County was held in partnership with the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Reporters and Editors Network of Liberia (WASH R&E), Liberia Media Empowerment & Foundation (LIMEAF Inc) and the Foundation for Empowerment of Rural Dwellers (FERD), with support from WaterAid Liberia.
