Mining Trade Conference set for Zambian Copperbelt

By Nawa Mutumweno – The forthcoming Copperbelt Mining Trade Expo and Conference, which is expected to attract about 1 500 mining experts across Africa, has been described as an opportunity for mining players to invest in Zambia’s $7.5 billion copper-rich industry.

About 80 leading names in the industry have already confirmed to exhibit at the conference themed: ’Putting Zambia’s Copperbelt on the Map – local strategies for creating sustainable world-class mining operations’ scheduled to take place from April 28 – 29, 2014 in Kitwe, organisers have said.

Chamber of Mines of Zambia (CMZ) chief executive officer Maureen Dlamini said the conference will help to create stakeholder linkages among various mining players in the country and abroad with a view to establishing productive partnerships.

‘’It carries a theme which is in tandem with the chamber’s role of promoting value addition and promotion of local entrepreneurs in the mining business,’’ Ms. Dlamini said in a statement issued in Lusaka recently.

And commenting on the expo, event director Nicole Smith said the conference’s offering is unique because it takes the marketplace to the operations while addressing technical and practical issues in the Zambian mining sector.

The conference is being organised in association with Electra Mining Africa, the second largest mining show in the world.

The event comprises a professional attendance expo with free technical workshops aimed at engineers, geologists and plant managers, as well as presentations including a two-day strategic and operations-focused conference.

Meanwhile, CMZ president Emmanuel Mutati heads an top-notch list of speakers that includes representatives from the Zambia Development Agency (ZDA), Kalumbila Minerals Limited and Lubambe Copper Mines.

Others are Chibuluma Copper Mines, Association of Zambian Exploration Companies, Ministry of Lands, Natural Resources and Environmental Protection and Zambia Institute of Human Resources Management.

Some of the major names in the mining industry that have already confirmed as exhibitors  are Murray & Roberts Zambia, Barloworld, Specialty Emergency Services, Mintek, Verder Pumps, Oryx aoil, Set point Zambia, etc.
