AfDB studies Zambia’s private sector profile

By Nawa Mutumweno – The African Development Bank (AfDB) has commissioned the Zambia Institute for Policy Analysis and Research (ZIPAR) to undertake a study on the private sector profile for the country.

The study will enable the bank plan efficiently on how best it can provide support to the public sector in implementing developmental projects,  AfDB resident representative Freddie Kwesiga said in Lusaka recently.

‘’Once completed, the Zambia Private Sector Profile will provide specific proposals on how the AfDB could support the private sector as well as offer insights on opportunities for partnership with other institutions providing financial and technical support to the private sector,’’ he pointed out.

He was speaking during the signing ceremony of the AfDB and ZIPAR project at the AfDB offices in Lusaka recently.

The study is also expected to offer in-depth knowledge of what constitutes the private sector in the country and highlight the constraints and prospects for private sector development.

Dr. Kwesiga stressed the need to clearly define and segment the different constituents of the private sector in order to identify opportunities for public private partnerships.

He said it will also include support by the bank to the private sector on the basis of its comparative advantage.
